Sparse noise RF
Maximally excitatory input
(click to restart)
Each neuron is picky: it responds to specific patterns in a specific part of the visual field. This is characterized by its receptive field (RF), describing where it looks and what it looks for. With sparse noise, we can find where the neuron responds to (left). Or, we optimize a random image via a neural encoder to maximally excite the neuron, and get the stimulus that our neuron "likes" most (right).
